If you enjoy walking but are no longer able to cover long distances or meet the challenge of mountain climbs, the Easy Walking group might be ideal for you. Most walks are 1 - 4 miles, occasionally further, usually along flat, well-laid tracks such as cycle paths, towpaths, pavements etc both within and beyond the boundaries of Bridgend County. The emphasis is on keeping active but enjoying conversation at the same time, so the pace is moderate. No dogs. Our walks almost invariably end with refreshments in a conveniently located café. Details of this month's planned walk will appear below.
Our next walk is on Tuesday, 18th August when we will be following a circular route from the train station in Llantwit Major to the Beach and returning via a higher footpath to the town - approx 3.5 miles.
Meeting point: we will meet in the car park of Llantwit Major train station (which means that people can travel to the start point by train or bus - route 303 - if they prefer) at 10.30am.
The walking route takes us through the town, down a road, and then along a well-used footpath through fields to the beach. There is a cafe and toilets at the beach (hopefully both open!), but assuming the cafe has not changed hands please note that it is CASH ONLY. We will then be climbing steps to the top of the cliff and following a footpath between farmland to the town and back.
Sensible all terrain footwear please! Also, if the forecast temperature for the day, as of the night before, is in excess of the mid-20'sC the walk will not go ahead as I am aware that most of you would find it too uncomfortable. Similarly, if it is raining heavily on the day it will be cancelled without notification – please exercise your judgement. If it’s showers, drizzle, light rain then it will (or at least your will turn up to decide with you).
