If you enjoy walking but are no longer able to cover long distances or meet the challenge of mountain climbs, the Easy Walking group might be ideal for you.  Most walks are 1 - 4 miles, occasionally further, usually along flat, well-laid tracks such as cycle paths, towpaths, pavements etc both within and beyond the boundaries of Bridgend County.  The emphasis is on keeping active but enjoying conversation at the same time, so the pace is moderate.  No dogs.  Our walks almost invariably end with refreshments in a conveniently located café. Details of this month's planned walk will appear below.

Our next walk is on Tuesday, 16th June when we will be taking a trip to Fourteen Locks on the canal at Risca.

Meeting point: in order to get to Fourteen Locks we will need to car share from the car park at McArthur Glen (top end, below Sainsbury's), meeting at 10.00am (volunteer drivers other than myself may be required). The journey is straightforward - M4 to Junction 27 (High Cross) then B4591 for about 0.6 miles, turn right (signposted) and park in the car park (at cost unknown) If you want to drive direct from home, aim to get there by about 10.30am.

The walk itself will be along the canal towpath north of 14 locks, taking a slight diversion on the way back. After refreshment at the canal centre cafe - small but very good - those who want to stretch their legs again can walk down a number of the 14 locks and back again via a different route, but be aware, this can be steep and uneven in places. The terrain for the majority of the walk(s) is tarmac or flat(ish) gravel, but it can be wet underfoot.

Sensible footwear please!  If it is raining heavily on the day the walk will not go ahead but you will not be notified of cancellation – please exercise your judgement. If it’s showers, drizzle, light rain then it will (or at least your convenor will turn up to decide with you).
