HEROES, VILLAINS, ROGUES & ECCENTRICS

If you have a general interest in all things historical this could be the group for you. We take a broad approach rather than focus on specifics such as local or family history, and the emphasis is on accessibility and inclusivity – exploring how events of the distant and more recent past can be relevant to our lives today
Every year the History Group follows a particular theme, and our theme for 2025-2026 will be Heroes, Villains, Rogues and Eccentrics. Hopefully, many of you will have access to the internet, or access to a library, or a collection of dusty encyclopedias at home that will enable you to engage with this topic.
So far, in this series, we have highlighted quite a number of women in all of the categories. For various reasons it seems timely, at our meeting on 11th May, 2.20pm, to repeat a talk on 18th and 19th Century Women Writers, not least because they offer an interesting social commentary on their period and an assortment of characters
